The Apostle Peter is writing to first-century Christians who are experiencing persecution and suffering. In the early part of his letter, he encourages perseverance under testing times by reminding them (and us) of the costliness of redemption, the enduring nature of God's promises and the reward they (and we) have in believing on the Lord Jesus Christ.
